Please join us for an entertaining and informative preview of "The Flying Dutchman" prior to attending the Met's new production at the Showplace Icon in St. Louis Park! Using musical excerpts and fascinating historical anecdotes, Daniel Freeman will help us all understand this first "standard repertory" opera of Wagner's, including its historical context in the tradition of German Romanticism, Wagner's development as an artist, his revolutionary activities such as the Dresden uprising (for which he was exiled), and aspects of his personal & political life during the time of composition and the work's 1843 premiere in Dresden.
